Dramatization is part of communication

Look at the speech which has been delivered by PM designated or we can say PM in waiting Mr. Narendra Modi at the central hall of Parliament yesterday, speech was emotional, full of drama, suspense yet communication was at it’s pinnacle.

Today’s news papers are in all time praise for him for his eloquent speech and thus his communication power as he has communicated loud and clear on his agenda in coming months.

Likewise MBA aspirants should learn and take cue from his speech that communication has to be such that must move the audience all the way and your message goes across not only well but accepted also.

For best communication, you need to dramatize a bit, voice needs to be modulated and you should speak with regular pauses with audible clear voice.

GDPI are the crucial tests for you on communication skills only hence, better to hone these skills with practice.

Maintain respectful tone in PI

Many candidates have excellent and interesting content to share with their interviewers but because of their incorrect tone, they do not clear the Personal Interview round.

While answering a question, it is important to vary your tone. Do not sound monotonous. This indirectly conveys to your interviewer that you are bored with the interview.

You need to show enthusiasm in your voice. Keep your voice alive by matching your facial expressions with your content in PI. Also, if your natural voice is shrieky and high-pitched, tone it down a little.

In PI, speak in a lower register of your voice to sound friendly, mature and confident. Many candidates have the tendency to speak quickly when they are nervous. Remember that when you speak quickly, your interviewer might miss out on important information. So, speak at a normal speed and keep your sentences short and crisp to be successful in PI.

Be Informative in PI

One of the mistakes that many candidates make during a Personal Interview is sharing information that is not relevant to the question. In a Personal Interview, you are tested on your communication skills.

If you do not answer to the point or share relevant information, it shows that you are not paying attention to the question that the interviewer is asking you. This reflects badly on your interpersonal skills.

Generally, you should answer a question in four to six lines. Also, do not beat around the bush while answering questions. Give direct answers that are informative.

Another mistake that some candidates make is by responding in monosyllables like ‘yes’ and ‘no’. A Personal Interview is a platform for you to stimulate further discussion and show the interviewer your genuine interest in pursuing an MBA. So, you have to put some thought into your answers and convey them in an enthusiastic manner.

You are supposed to be honest with yourself in PI

No one is perfect and interviewers are aware of this fact. You may be a fresh graduate or a professional with a few years of work experience, but you are still relatively new to the business world. So, an interviewer will not penalize you if you do not answer all the questions as per the expectations.

During the Personal Interview, you should show eagerness to learn. You are entering a business school to learn new things. So, you should be humble during the Personal Interview.

Most of the business schools look for students who are good in both studies and extracurricular activities. However, if you have not participated in many activities, be honest and tell the interviewer the reason for not doing so.

If you did not have sufficient time during college days to participate in activities, inform the interviewer that you would like to improve your time management skills while pursuing an MBA. This shows that you are aware of your weaknesses and are keen on improving upon them.

Be yourself during the Personal Interview and answer all the questions honestly. As a potential candidate for the business school, the interviewer expects you to show humility.

Show your Enthusiasm in PI

A business school already has a good idea about how you have performed in your college and university, which is why you have been selected for an interview. So, before you go for the Personal Interview, make it a point to hone your communication and people skills.

At a Personal Interview, you will be asked the reason for pursuing an MBA. You are expected to be enthusiastic while answering this question. Impress your interviewer by sharing your goals, vision and career aspirations that you have set for yourself.

If you have a story to share with your interviewer on the factors that have influenced you to pursue an MBA, don’t hold back. Your aim is to impress your interviewer with your confidence, communication skills and your enthusiasm for pursuing an MBA

Business schools want candidates who are eager and willing to participate in class discussions; they do not want an introvert who sits quietly in the corner of a room. And the Personal Interview is basically a test to understand your personality and to see if you fit into the culture of the school.

The Personal Interview is a platform for you to show enthusiasm about joining an MBA program. The interviewers want to know if you are being forced to join the business school or if you are genuinely interested in the course. So, don’t hesitate. Speak convincingly and enthusiasm will automatically show on your face and in your words.
